Hospice is looking blooming great thanks to £15k windfall
A much- loved charity is looking smart after a £15,000 boost.
St Vincent’s Hospice, in Howwood, received the grant, funded by Smith Skip Limited through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund (SLCF).
It has paid for major upgrades to signage and the community garden.
Thanks to funding through the SLCF in 2015, St Vincent’s was able to create a community garden, which is a quiet space for the public and visitors to the hospice to enjoy, go for a walk or just sit and take in the scenery.
To build on that, the latest cash support has been used to give a significant uplift to the hospice appearance, access and surrounding areas.
Project lead for St Vincent’s Kat rina Vine said: “Our community garden has been such a brilliant addition to our hospice, but we know that some of our signs and fencing were beginning to look a bit tired.
“We were also aware that if you are coming here for the first time, it can be difficult to find your way around.
“You could come and go without realising that our Barn Tearoom was open to you, or that you could take a wander around our woodland walk.
“Now, thanks to this support and the efforts of numerous contractors, organisations and staff from across Renfrewshire, our hospice has had a major facelift, not only giving it a fresh and modern look, but also making it easier than ever before to get to us.”
There are now new signs to direct people around the hospice, but the Barn Tearoom and community garden are benefitting from attractive new signage to let more people know that they can drop in any time.
The project also involved removing extensive areas of broken fences, gates, overgrown trees and replacing it with a whopping 125 metres of new beech hedging with protective posts and wire fence.
A drystone feature and new entrance has been constructed in the public car park in a bid to help create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits them.
Katrina added: “This has been an incredible piece of work, and there are too many people to thank for giving of their time, effort and materials to make it possible.
“This will not only make us easier to find, and encourage more people than ever before to visit our garden and tearoom, but will help create a better environment for the hundreds of patients, families and visitors who come to us every year.
“On behalf of everyone at St Vincent’s Hospice, thank you to the Smith Skip Limited, the SLFC and everyone involved for all their support.”
