Young carers enjoy a summer getaway
Young carers got a chance to escape their responsibilities and enjoy a weekend away with their pals.
Renfrewshire Carers Centre organised the respite weekend for youngsters aged between eight and 12.
Often young carers’ responsibilities can increase during the summer holidays as they don’t have school to go to.
Recognising this, Renfrewshire Carers Centre tries to organise a weekend away every summer with previous trips to Glencoe and Devon.
This time the group of 22 went to Perthshire and enjoyed an activity-filled weekend with abseiling, a giant swing, challenge course and lots of outdoor activities.
Pauline Kelly, young carers development worker, said:“It was a fantastic weekend.
“Young carers maybe don’t get a break during the holidays, their caring role can increase.
“Some of the young carers haven’t had the opportunity to stay away from home yet. They took part in lots of outdoor activities.
“They also saw a deer being born which was an amazing experience.
“They all really enjoyed the weekend.”
