A man is facing trial accused of assaulting another man with a lamp.

It ’ s alleged Pat r ick Anderson, 37, attacked David McGregor with the makeshift weapon at a flat in Johnstone.

P ro s e c u t o r s claim Anderson assaulted Mr McGregor on April 8 at a flat in the town’s William Street.

The case against Anderson called in public for the first time at Paisley Sheriff Court this week, with Anderson pleading not guilty.

He is denying both charges he faces — assault and threatening or abusive behaviour.

The assault charge states that he repeatedly struck Mr McGregor with a lamp, a bat and a knife, leaving him badly hurt and scarred for life.

The second charge states that he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, by repeatedly shouting at Mr McGregor and threatening him with violence.

The case was adjourned until later this month for a trial to take place.
