Community in a spin at Ferguslie bike ride

- ALISON RENNIE

Families enjoyed the fun of two wheels when they took part in a community bike ride.

Marc Small set up Own Yer Bike just over two months ago, a project which aims to restore old bikes and give them to children and adults.

He organised a community bike ride around Ferguslie Park which attracted 60 people and a fun day in the Tannahill Centre afterwards which had 200 people at it.

Marc said: “It was amazing, I’m still buzzing from it.

“I thought about 50 people might turn up, if that. The hall was mobbed.”

Marc said the event around Ferguslie Park took around 40 minutes at a slow pace and there was an area outside set up for smaller children to play on their bikes.

He’s been supplied with bikes from KibbleWorks and Marc said they’ve still got around 600 kids bikes to give away.

He said: “The bikes are free as long as the parents get in touch with us. We’ve had a lot of people interested in adult bikes too.”

Ma r c thanked the community police for helping with the bike ride and the Tannahill Centre for hosting the fun day which had a barbecue, drinks, stalls and a raffle.
