They’re all heroes

-

Well done to the community heroes who did outstanding work in Renfrewshire

(Express, July 31).

They were honoured by Provost Lorraine Cameron for all that they have done, from representing Great Britain at the Special Olympics to being a Police Scotland Youth Volunteer.

It was good to read that Mrs Cameron looked upon being able to recognise those who make a difference as one of the most exciting parts of her job.

She said she was delighted to recognise all of these people, and so should we all.

They go about what they do modestly and quietly, and are a credit to Renfrewshire.

I nearly choked on my cornflakes as I read Mary Fee’s column in the PDE on Tuesday, July 30.

Although I generally agree with her assessment of Boris Johnson, at least I campaigned to try to stop the likes of Boris having any power over Scotland.

In contrast, Ms Fee campaigned alongside the Tories during the

Scottish Independence referendum to ensure that Scotland would be under the thumb of Westminster, so it’s a bit much for her to moan about something that is a direct consequence of her actions in 2014.

Of course all the promises made to secure a No vote in 2014 have all disappeared, not one of them implemented - yet not a word of protest from Ms Fee and her Labour colleagues.

In just a few months we will be dragged out of the EU even though Ms Fee and her Better Together campaign promised a No vote would keep us in.

Scotland in particular will face heavy economic and social consequences of Brexit, including thousands of job losses and potentially the NHS being traded away as part of a trade deal with Trump.

The only way out of the Brexit madness supported by Tory and Labour politicians is Independence.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren It was lovely to read in the Express (July 29) that two local women are in the running for netball awards.

Netball is a sport that doesn’t get too much publicity.

But this could change in Renfrewshire if Amy McIntosh and Fiona Moore-McGrath do well in the All Scotland 2019 Awards.

Amy is a PE teacher at Johnstone High School and Fiona coaches St Mirren Netball Club.

I hope Express readers do their bit by voting for them by emailing membership@ netballscotland.com before next Thursday.

You can also vote at the Netball Scotland Facebook and Instagram pages.
