It’s been a sizzling summer for Jim
Gaffer Jim Goodwin says he is delighted with his summer recruitment.
The St Mirren boss believes he has improved the balance of the squad – especially with the addition of several left-sided players.
His options now include the return of winger Kyle McAllister, Kilmarnock loanee Calum Waters and striker Jonathan Obika.
Goodwin said: “We’ve got good experienced guys in there with young lads, too.
“There’s a great balance to the squad now, including more left-sided players. Before it was predominantly right footers.
“Across the board we have great options and I feel I can bring guys off the bench who will make a real impact.
“As the season goes on there will be suspensions and injuries so you have to be prepared for that.”
Others to arrive in Paisley over the last few weeks and months are well- known Frenchman Tony Andreu, defender Sean McLoughlin, striker Junior Morias and even the son of French world cup winner Youri Djorkaeff.
Oan joins Sam Foley, Ilkay Durmus and keeper Dean Lyness as the remaining summer captures.
Six of those players started Saturday’s loss at Livingston with a further three on the bench.
Despite being satisfied with his recruitment, Goodwin admits the odd player slipped out his grasp. He was, though, quick to praise the backing he has had from the Buddies board.
“I’m really pleased with what I’ve managed to do,” he added.
“We got just about everything we were looking for. One or two didn’t get over the line in terms of them having other options, which happens.
“But I can’t argue with the business I have done.
“The boys who’ve come in are settling really well and the board have been really supportive as well so I have to thank them for their efforts.”
