Charity will feel at home in Paisley

- ALISON RENNIE

A charity founded by a quadruple amputee is moving its headquarters to Paisley.

Lochwinnoch mum Corinne Hutton, 49, founded the charity Finding Your Feet after a near-fatal bout of pneumonia and sepsis in 2013 forced doctors to amputate her hands and legs below the knees.

Following lengthy rehabilitation, she wanted to support other amputees and people with limb difference.

It has raised thousands over the years with Corinne herself taking on fundraising challenges like climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

In January she was the first Scottish double hand transplant recipient following years of being unable to find a donor match.

After being based in Glasgow for the last five years, the charity has moved to St James House in Paisley for the next year.

Corinne said: “I’m a Renfrewshire girl myself, so I’m delighted we’ve moved here and can benefit the community positively.

“Finding Your Feet is all about bringing people together – amputees, supporters, volunteers and businesses.

“The people of Paisley have welcomed us with open arms and we’ll return the favour.

“We’re still providing all of our services in Glasgow and have grown to areas all across Scotland, but Paisley is a perfect place for our HQ.”

Finding Your Feet provides vital emotional and physical support to amputees and people with limb difference. The charity provides support to a lot of amputees from the Renfrewshire area.

As well as the day to day running of the charity, it will be home to its popular Ampu-Teas sessions where amputees can meet for a coffee and a chat, counselling, pilates and various other activities.

The charity has ten team members, with one based in Dundee.

A spokesperson added: “We’re very interested in engaging the local community as well as local businesses, so if anyone feels that they could benefit from or be supported by the charity then please do get in touch.”
