MAYHEM AFTER BUS STOP BRAWL SCHOOL RUN MURDER BID

- DAVID CAMPBELL

Thugs tried to mow down a man in an early- morning murder bid after a bus stop brawl between school kids.

The 35- year- old victim was then chased along a Paisley street and set about with a hammer and baseball bat as terrified pupils looked on.

It’s understood the violence erupted in Springbank Road, in the Shortroods area of town, after kids waiting for a coach to St Andrew’s Academy started fighting with each other around 7.40am.

When parents arrived at the bus stop a short time later, one man was targeted by an outof- control driver who attempted to run him over several times.

The yobs, who were in a Volkswagon Golf, repeatedly drove at the

frightened man, even mounting the kerb in a bid to knock him down.

Cops last night revealed they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Officers said that they are following a positive line of enquiry in their attempts to track down two brutes who chased the same man along the street before laying into him with weapons.

The man was struck over the head with the hammer and baseball bat before being taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in town for treatment.

Police are treating this attack as a serious assault.

A Po l i c e S cotland spokeswoman confirmed that a woman had been arrested in connection with a “disturbance” in the street.

She said: “A 37- year- old woman has been arrested and charged following a disturbance in Springbank Road, Paisley, on Tuesday.

“Officers are also following a positive line of enquiry regarding two men believed to be involved in the same incident.”
