Gran says thanks for charity fundraiser support

- DAVID CAMPBELL

A Paisley gran battling bone cancer has thanked her family for their support after her charity night raised £1,500.

Mum-of-two Theresa Palmer, 55, has endured six rounds of gruelling chemotherapy since her sarcoma diagnosis in December last year.

And she split the cash between Paisley’s Accord Hospice and The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow.

Her supportive family helped her organise a money-spinning night at Ferguslie Bowling Club for the two charities.

She said: “The Beatson has supported me so much since I was diagnosed with cancer , so I wanted to try to raise money for them.

“Accord Hospice helps so many families in the area when they are in need.

“I’ve had six chemo sessions but there isn’t much more they can do for me.

“I’m just so grateful for all the support I’ve had from my friends and family.

“My husband Jim and my two daughters Emma and Jade helped organise the night along with my sister Ann and my two nieces Amanda and Caroline.”

Theresa, who lives in Ferguslie Park, added:“We had so much help from the community with raffle prizes.

“Globe Bingo in Johnstone supported us, Jan and Peter Stewart gave us a stay in Fort William, Graeme’s Butchers in Well Street donated too, as well as RSA Newsagents.

“I really can’t thank everyone who helped or donated enough.”

Those who went along on the night enjoyed a DJ and buffet and represenatives from Accord and The Beatson were also on hand to receive their cheques for a magnificent £718.51 each.

Accord Hospice was thrilled with the donation and thanked Theresa and her family for their efforts

A spokeswoman said: “A huge thank you to Theresa for holding a charity night at Ferguslie Bowling Club, raising a truly fantastic £718.51 each for Accord Hospice and The Beatson.

“Thank you to family and friends for helping to make this such a successful evening.”

I’m just so grateful for all the support I’ve had from my friends and family
