Dancers will be boxing clever at arts centre
Top choreographer Julia James-Griffiths is bringing her new dance theatre work The Box to Paisley next month.
And alongside the performance, Julia is also offering free Mind to Move workshops. These are aimed at anyone over 18 who has experience of mental health issues, and no dance experience is necessary.
The workshop will be based on improvisation and creative expression, and will be followed by a performance of a short excerpt from The Box.
Based on the idea that one in four of us will experience mental health issues, The Box is a new dance theatre piece that explores the impact depression can have on an individual, and how our society responds to it.
Julia said:“I believe dance and movement can be really powerful, as they can communicate what words cannot express. When it comes to the struggle of mental health issues, I find words are often not sufficient enough to explain what it’s like to someone who doesn’t understand or hasn’t experienced it.
“The Box bridges that gap as it physicalises depression - it helps to make the invisible visible.”
As a performer and choreographer, she has been involved in several festivals both nationally and abroad.
Based in Edinburgh, Julia is particularly pleased to be bringing her work to Paisley.
The workshop is at Paisley Arts Centre on Wednesday, October 11, from 10am to 11.30am.
They are free and can be booked by emailing hello@jigdance.com
The Box can be see at the arts centre on Thursday, October 12, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 (£8 concession) on 0300 300 1210 or at https://
