History Society is set for first 2020 meeting

The first meeting in 2020 of Johnstone History Society is on Tuesday, January 14.

It takes place in the Masonic Hall, Collier Street, at 7.30pm.

The first speaker of the year will be Lil Brookes and her topic is The Ladies A, B and C.

This title is sure to intrigue and Express readers are urged to go along and find out what it is all about.

“We hope to have a good attendance for our first meeting of the year and any visitors will be made welcome,” a history society spokesman said.

“Earlier this month we had a very interestin­g and entertaini­ng talk from Joe Reilly about the Linwood line.

“This meeting was very well attended with many visitors present.

“We hope they all enjoyed themselves and will return to further meetings.

“Being December, we finished with tea, coffee and mince pies.”

The society’s museum, in Morrisons, will be open until Saturday and then close until Wednesday, January 8.

“We still have a large collection of books and pamphlets on sale and these can also be purchased online and paid for via PayPal,” the spokesman added.

“We still have some 2020 calendars left, but they are selling fast – so if you have not already got one come in soon and get one before they are all gone.”

“The society wishes to take this opportunit­y to wish all our members and friends a very happy new year.”
