Woman attacked in ‘smackhead’ row

- CARLA TALBOT

An Erskine woman hurled abuse at her in- laws in a vicious spat which ended with her assaulting a woman on her own doorstep.

Stephanie Middleton shouted vile comments at Elizabeth Fletcher as she stormed up to her house in Parksail, Erskine in August this year.

The 29- year- old called the woman a “f***** g smackhead” before punching her on the head during the tirade.

Middleton appeared Paisley Sheriff Court where it was heard she turned up at the house and began shouting erratically outside.

The Fiscal Depute said: “The shouting was overheard by Elizabeth Fletcher who was upstairs but came down to the door.

“At the time she was shouting ‘f**k you, you f*****g smack head’ and ‘you’re an alkie b*****d’.

“Middleton then started to walk away but quickly returned to the garden and struck Ms Fletcher on the head.

“This was observed by witnesses who then contacted the police.

“This was when the accused called her a ‘fat cow’.”

Middleton, of MacDuff, Erskine, pled guilty to assaulting Elizabeth Fletcher during the incident on August 21 this year.

She also admitted behaving in a threatening manner and shouting and swearing.

Her defence agent told the court that Middleton had lost her temper after being told comments had been made about a family member.

He told how she has a “difficult relationship” with her partner’s family, which led to the incident.

He said: “She went to the house to confront them about the comments they made.

“She has one previous conviction from 10 years ago.

“She says she has learned a big lesson from this and that she will bite her tongue from now on.”

Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill blasted Middleton fro her “immature” behaviour.

She said: “You are 29 years old and you only have one previous conviction from 10 years ago.

“Your comments seem to stem from immaturity but they are defamatory in nature.

“You need to stay away from these people.”

Middleton was fined £135 for the assault charge and was admonished for the charge involving shouting and swearing.
