Thief steals jewellery from pensioner as she sleeps

A frightened Paisley pensioner woke up to find a thief had raided her home while she slept.

The callous crook stole more than £ 1,000 worth of jewellery from the 68-year-old woman’s Love Street home.

It’s understood the victim was asleep on her couch around 8.30pm on Saturday night before discoverin­g her house had been invaded.

Police are investigat­ing the cruel theft, which has left the victim badly shaken, and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A four-figure sum worth of jewellery is missing from the home.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, said: “This was a distressin­g incident for a woman who woke to find her house had been broken into.

“A quantity of jewellery was taken. “She was unhurt but is clearly very distressed by what occurred.

“We are very keen to identify the suspect. I would ask members of the public to think back if they remember seeing anything suspicious in the Love Street area of Paisley between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“We are also checking CCTV. If you have CCTV covering the area, please get in touch.”

Police are also investigat­ing a breakin attempt at flats in Albion Street,

Paisley.

A man was spotted trying to get inside a flat with a crowbar around 9pm on Saturday.

Neighbours challenged him and he made off.

The door frame was damaged in the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said: “A suspect male was spotted attempting gain access to a property in Albion Street, Paisley on Saturday night.

“He was challenged and made off from the area on foot. If you have any informatio­n in relation to this incident, then we would like to hear from you.”
