Hospice has fun with Santa... but now it’s a time for reflection
Today will see people gather for one of the most positive and poignant events of the year at one of Paisley’s favourite charities.
Accord Hospice’s carol service and lunch is a time for people who have lost a loved one or who are thinking of someone who is ill to take time out with others in a similar position.
The service follows Accord’s ever-popular Christmas Fair at The Lagoon leisure centre, in Paisley.
The fun event attracted hundreds including Santa – and raised more than £10,000 for the charity.
Today’s service will be at Paisley Abbey followed by a meal at St Mirin’s Cathedral Hall.
David McFadden, fundraising and communications manager, highlighted the importance of the event.
He said: “The carol service and lunch has been part of the hospice for many years...it’s tradition.
“It is very important for all who take part.
“It is a time to think and reflect.” Accord says it always aims to include the families of patients in all they do, and that is especially the case at Christmas with the carol service and the popular Light Up a Life event, which gives people the chance to honour a loved one by sponsoring a Christmas tree light at the hospice.
Founded in 1982, Accord Hospice says none of what it does would be possible to without the help of families, volunteers, private donors and businesses.
It says their trust in the hospice is never taken for granted and is greatly valued.
Bosses say the management structure at Accord ensures staff concentrate on care, compassion and quality of life, and always put patients first.
Inspection reports from Healthcare Improvement Scotland have noted that the hospice meets and surpasses the required standards and are very positive about its patient-centred approach.
Today’s lunch is now fully booked, but people can still get a ticket for the carol service, which costs £5.
To book for the service, which is at 11am in the abbey, call Accord on 0141 581 2000, email fundraising@ accord. org. uk, or visit www. accordhospice.org.uk
