Ex-hotel boss claimed he had knife to cut cocaine

A Paisley man who was caught with a knife on the street claims the only reason he had it was to cut cocaine.

David Clark, was discovered with the blade on May 28 after being arrested in relation to another matter.

But the 46-year-old claims the only reason he had the Stanley knife on him was to prepare the Class-A drug.

Clark, of Bank Street, Paisley, was in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court where he admitted having the knife on him at Govan police station in May.

He also pled guilty to breaching his bail conditions twice by breaking his curfew.

The court heard that on September 12 he was caught trying to gain access friends.

The entire school got involved, with the parent council organising the raffle and the home economics department taking care of refreshmen­ts and selling homemade mince pies.

Kelly Keenan, acting principal music teacher, said:“It went really well.

“The concert band performed, as well as the brand new jazz group. to a common close at around 8.55pm.

He was then caught again on November 16 on Dixon Street at 2.45am.

His lawyer, Judith Hutchison, told the court that Clark’s cocaine use had been “the downfall of his life”, but that he was not a violent man.

She said: “His record only started in 2015.

“Prior to this he was a manager at Premier Inn and he was well thought of.

“But this job brought about cocaine use and this resulted in addiction, which he advises me he is trying to address.

“He realises this has been the downfall of his life.”

She added: “He advises me that the blade in question was more of a craft knife.

“He says he had it in his possession only to cut cocaine.

“There were also performanc­es from a few soloists.

“The pupils loved it.

“Some of the soloists are pupils sitting their SQA exams to give them that experience of

“There was no intention of that knife to be used to cause any harm.

“He has no violent previous conviction­s.

“That is not in his nature.”

The lawyer also claimed that medication which Clark is currently taking for seizures is the reason for the breach of bail offences.

She said: “He is on medication for seizures and he advises me that the mixture of the drugs he takes make him hallucinat­e and make him drowsy.

“He has been known to be found wandering the streets.”

Sheriff Seith Ireland adjourned the case until January 13 for a social work report to be obtained and a restrictio­n of liberty assessment to be carried out.

Clark will be sentenced when he returns to the dock next year. performing their piece.

“A lot of the pupils had just finished their prelims, so this was a nice way for them to finish and get in the Christmas mood.

“Our next event will be the spring concert in April.”
