Yobs steal £1k of Tesco goods
A gang of yobs ransacked a Renfrewshire supermarket in a latenight raid.
Five louts nicked booze, scratchcards and cash from Tesco Linwood shortly after 3am on Saturday morning.
Police say they forced entry through a door before going on a wrecking spree inside the Bridge Street shop.
They stole alcohol, lottery scratchcards and till drawers with total value of around £1,000.
Officers probing the incident say they are scouring CCTV footage in a bid to identify the culprits.
They are also appealing to members of the public for information.
Sergeant Kevin McGee, from Renfrew, Johnstone and the villages community policing team, said: “We are investigating a breakin at Tesco in Bridge Street, Linwood, which happened around 3.10am on Saturday.
“Five people forced entry into the shop through a door and then ransacked items inside.
“They stole a number of items including alcohol and scratchcards, with a total value of around £1,000 before making off.
“This was a mindless act of theft and vandalism which will not be tolerated in our community.”
He added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around that time and saw anything suspious to get in touch.
“I’d also like to ask any motorists or taxi drivers who were in the area to check dash cam footage to see if you captured anything which may be significant to our investigation.”
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man has been arrested over allegations he assaulted a police officer.
It’s claimed the man injured the cop in a struggle at the rear of the Clippens Inn, in Linwood, at a round 8pm on Saturday.
The male police officers was left with a broken finger in the rammy.
A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
