12-week isolation for ‘most at risk’

The most vulnerable people in Renfrewshi­re are being asked to stay indoors for three months as more measures are introduced to tackle Covid-19.

Residents in the local authority who are most at risk will be contacted by the Scottish Government in the coming days to ask them to completely quarantine themselves for a total of 12 weeks.

People with certain cancers, severe respirator­y conditions and those who have undergone organ transplant­s are among those being asked to comply with‘shielding’.

Renfrewshi­re Council said it is ready to help anyone who does not have a support network during their 12 weeks of quarantine.

A spokesman said:“This advice will save lives so we would strongly encourage all residents who receive a letter to follow the guidance.”

People in Renfrewshi­re most at risk of catching the coronaviru­s are being asked to go into complete quarantine for three months protect them from the illness.

Buddies who have undergone organ transplant­s, are going through cancer treatment and those living with serious respirator­y conditions such as cystic fibrosis and severe asthma are among those who will be contacted by Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood.

The new measures - known as ‘shielding’- has been put in place to try and protect those who could be at serious risk if they contract Covid-19.

People affected will be asked not to leave their home at any time, and must rely on family and friends to deliver any essential items such as food and medicine.

Anyone who shares a home with a person at serious risk are also being advised to minimise all contact to reduce the chance of the virus being passed on.

Renfrewshi­re Council is urging anyone who is sent a letter to comply to help save lives in the community.

A spokesman said:“We are ready to support those in Renfrewshi­re who are considered most vulnerable to Coronaviru­s and require help to be shielded.

“Where people do not have a support network to collect essential items such as food and medicine, we will work with our partners to make deliveries direct to them.“The advice has come directly from Scottish Government and will save lives so we would strongly encourage all residents who receive a letter from the Chief Medical Officer to follow the guidance.
