-

Nurses at a leading veterans’ charity have become social media stars in the fight to keep their patients fit and well during the lockdown.

The staff at Erskine made a video that urges everyone to stay at home during the pandemic so that the ex-servicemen and women, many of whom are elderly and frail, do not contract the virus.

To the strains of You Gotta Be by Des’ree, the nurses can be seen in the footage holding up sheets that h +the message home.

They read:“We can’t stay at home but you can.

“They fought for us, we fight for them.

“Proud to care, Erskine. “Thank you.”

The elderly, especially those with underlying health conditions, are particularly susceptible to the coronavirus and people are being urged to be sparing in their interactions with them.

Writing about the pandemic on Erskine’s website, chief executive officer Ian Cumming said: “Our number one priority is and always will be the safety and well-being of those we care for.

“We continue to monitor and action daily advice from the Scottish Government, the NHS and the World Health Organisation.

“We are extremely proud of the courage and dedication we see daily from our staff and residents.”

Erskine provides support to veterans in Scotland, through four care homes and a veterans village, comprising of 44 cottages, an activity centre, five assisted living apartments and 24 single living apartments that are currently under construction.

You can view the video on Erskine’s Facebook page.
