Taking the lead We’re working round the clock
BY RENFREWSHIRE
COUNCIL LEADER IAIN NICOLSON
I want to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thanks to our incredible council staff who are working day and night to ensure we continue to deliver Renfrewshire’s essential services.
Our staff are caring for our most vulnerable, providing childcare for our essential workers and ensuring that we are there for those that need us most.
Their dedication and commitment goes above and beyond the call of duty as we operate in ever-changing and unprecedented times.
I must also give my thanks to the incredible work of everyone in the NHS, from the doctors and nurses to the porters and support staff who ensure that those who need treatment are able to receive it.
They are an inspiration and I am proud to have them within our communities.
I know the strength of community spirit we have in Renfrewshire and, now more than ever, we need to harness it to do all we can to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
Community resilience is going to be key, especially in the many rural areas we have in Renfrewshire, which is why we want community groups, third sector organisations and volunteers to talk to one another as much as possible using our Renfrewshire Community Planning Channels.
Tell us, and each other, what you are doing to support your local community over the coming weeks and months, and we’ll promote it on our website so that people know where they can access what they need – there is already information there at the moment.
The latest advice from the Scottish Government is to stay at home wherever possible, except to shop for essential food and medicine, to take one form of exercise a day on your own or whoever also in your home, for any medical needs or to care for another vulnerable person, and to travel to and from work only if it is not possible to work from home.
Please follow this advice. It is for the safety of you, your friends and family, and everyone else in Renfrewshire as we look to limit the spread of this disease.
The advice is in place for three weeks when it will be reviewed, so please do all you can to follow it as closely as possible.
I know our business community are under pressure and facing difficult decisions so I would encourage them to look at the measures the Scottish and UK Governments have put in places to mitigate the impact of coronavirus.
We have extensive information on what support is available on our website, including the job retention scheme, VAT deferral and grants – as well as contact numbers for council staff who can provide advice and guidance.
Please stay safe and look after each other.
