Heartless thug steals purse from OAP, 77

A cowardly thug in red trainers snatched a 77- year- old woman’s purse in broad daylight.

The shocking incident unfolded in Renfrew’s Fulbar Road around 12.10pm on Tuesday.

The vulnerable victim was walking down the road alone when the heartless thief pounced before making off.

Cops swarmed the area following the incident after the distressed OAP managed to raise the alarm at a nearby funeral directors. However they were unable to trace the suspect.

Thankfully, the OAP was unhurt, but has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.

It’s understood the purse was found a short distance away with a small amount of money missing.

Police probing the incident say they will be carrying out enquiries in the area, including checking CCTV.

Sergeant Kevin McGee, from Renfrew, Johnstone and the villages community policing team, described the theft as “despicable” and urged witnesses to come forward.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: “The suspect grabbed a purse from the elderly victim’s hand in Fulbar Road, Renfrew, at around 12.10pm on Tuesday and made off.

“This was clearly a very distressin­g incident for her and we are determined to identify the person responsibl­e for this despicable crime.”

He added: “Thankfully, the victim was unhurt in the incident, but has clearly been left badly shaken.

“The suspect is described as being a white male, around 6ft tall, and wearing a black puffer jacket, black joggers and red trainers.

“If you witnessed what happened, or saw a male fitting the descriptio­n in the area, I’d ask you to get in touch with officers.

“I’d also ask people to check dashcam footage to see if they captured anything that may be useful to our investigat­ion.

“If you have any informatio­n at all, we would like to hear from you.”
