Eilidh and her pals are top brass

-

A student nurse who plays with Johnstone Brass Band in her spare time has hit the right note with a fun online video.

Eilidh Houston is a second year student nurse at the University of the West of Scotland and also works as an auxiliary for NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

She’s been a member of Johnstone Brass Band for three years and, during the lockdown, decided to have a bit of fun with her fellow musicians who also work for NHS Scotland.

She sent them the music to The Proclaimers hit song 500 Miles and asked them to record and film their part.

Eilidh then put all the clips together to form a fun video that has been shared hundreds of times.

The 30-year-old said:“I asked a group of us who work for the NHS to listen to the track and record their part.

“They sent the videos to me and I collated them into one big video, which I posted on YouTube.

“It was a bit of fun. I think most bands know a version of 500 Miles. It’s such a toe-tapping tune that everybody knows.

“We are all missing playing with our respective bands and, for many of us, going to rehearsals was a release from the pressurised jobs we do on a daily basis.”

Eilidh enlisted her fellow band members Chris McCloy, who’s a student doctor, and Kevin Jerome, a paediatric nurse, to take part, as well as Alison Jardine, a physiotherapist who’s a member of Renfrew Burgh Band.

“I just wanted to get people smiling ng at something that’s not doom and gloom, which is what Facebook can be at the moment,”she added.

“I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

“I thought it would just be seen by y some friends and colleagues, but it seems to have went a bit further than n that.

“On my own Facebook, it’s been viewed more than 12,000 times.

“It’s got a message to it as well, encouraging people to stay home.”

Colleagues from NHS Ayrshire and d Arran, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and Dumfries and Galloway health boards all took part in the online performance.
