Indian cooks up a storm for heroes

Free meals delivered to hospital

- RON MOORE

A kind-hearted businessman has cooked up a treat for NHS heroes working in Paisley.

Sandy Sanghera, owner of Indian Scene restaurant, in Glasgow Road, delivered 40 delicious curries and starters for staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital to say thank you to frontline health service workers.

Sandy, 31, prepared and sent a huge Indian banquet of food free of charge as an expression of his gratitude to medics fighting to save lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: “It was done to show just how much we appreciate all the NHS workers at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, who are doing such a brilliant job.

“One of our customers works in the NHS and we decided to do something for them after getting contact details.

“We made 40 curries, chicken kormas, chasnis and bhunas and a selection of Indian vegetables. We also made starters of vegetable and chicken poppadoms, spiced onions and naan breads.

“These were delivered to the hospital after arrangements were made and the response the restaurant has had has been terrific.”

Registered nurse Donna George responded on Facebook, saying:

“Thanks very much for sending all this lovely food to our department.

“It went down a treat, greatly appreciated.”

The family-run business is also offering a 10 per cent discount on foods to NHS workers, as it continues to recognise the amazing work the NHS is doing, especially during the coronavirus crisis.

Sandy said the restaurant is closed during the lockdown restrictions on the public, but it remains open for collections and still makes deliveries in the Paisley area.

He said: “It is difficult for many businesses such as ours during this time, so we are doing everything we can to keep going.

“Either that, or we won’t have a business to come back to once all of this is over.

“But it is important that we remember the importance of the work the NHS is doing during this time and we are glad the gesture was well received by those working in the hospital.”

The businessman said Indian Scene will be looking to repeat the gesture in the coming weeks as hospital staff continue to save lives during the Covid-19 crisis.
