CHLOE IS ON THE RUN

SHE’S RACING TO HELP CHARITY

- KENNETH SPEIRS

A young Paisley woman is putting lockdown to good use in a bid to raise cash for a great cause.

Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders has been missing out on its normal fundraising activities during the coronavirus crisis.

And that’s where Chloe Calvert stepped in and pulled on her running shoes.

She is running 10k every day for 10 days and set herself a donations target of £500 to help the group.

Trainee audiologist Chloe, 25, is no slouch when it comes to pounding the streets and hills.

She has done the gruelling Tough Mudder and a couple of Glasgow 10k runs.

However, she has done nothing like her present challenge before.

She said: “Running is something I’ve always enjoyed but never had the time.

“I’m lucky if I get out on a 5km run a week. “However, over lockdown as a method of distraction and to keep my fitness levels up I upped my running.

“I then saw a few running challenges for June such as a marathon and a couple of others and thought I want to do something.

“But I wanted something which isn’t the usual event or that I’ve heard anyone do before.

“And so when a family friend suggested it, at first I thought not a chance, but then I thought again and having only just done my second 10km run of the year – both within lockdown – I figured better now than never!”

Stuart McLellan from Neilston & Uplawmoor Community First Responders said Chloe was remarkable, not only for achieving her personal goal but for fundraising for the organisation during such a difficult time.

“It is incredible and all of our team from board to volunteers fully appreciate Chloe’s fundraising efforts and we ask if you can, to support Chloe’s fundraising by donating anything at all.”

Responders are a self-funded volunteer group in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Volunteers attend emergencies while waiting for ambulances to arrive.

The organisation relies on the generosity of the local community and local business to raise funds to buy their equipment and help pay running costs.

And the good news is Chloe has already exceeded her target.

Yesterday morning, donations on her Just Giving page stood at over £600.
