CLAN IN TRIPLE SWOOP

- BEN RAMAGE

The Clan have placed their trust in a trio of talented players from the University of Ottawa.

The Braehead outfit have lost a number of key members since lockdown hit, including Mat t Stanisz, Nolan LaPorte and Scott Pitt.

But they have bolstered their numbers after bringing in Quinn O’Brien, Jacob Sweeney and Medric Mercier from Ottawa.

Clan chief operating officer Gareth Chalmers believes the three signings can form a new core for the club.

He said: “I’d like to welcome Quinn, Jacob and Medric to the Clan. It was important that we started to create a new core group of players and when the opportunity came around to sign all three from Ottawa it made total sense.

“We’ve made the decision to focus on a younger team this season and recruiting ambitious, hungry, exciting players from NCAA and USports will very much play a part in that.

“Quinn, Jacob and Medric come highly recommended to us from our USports contacts and all opted for the Clan despite a lot of interest from other EIHL clubs and European teams.

“All three players will bring the hardworking, committed, energy- driven game that we’re looking to build the club around during the new season”.

Forward O’Brien, 25, joins the Clan after four seasons with Ottawa, where he went on to captain the team during the 2019-20 season.

Defenceman Sweeney, also 25, was the Ottawa’s alternative captain, while fellow defenceman Mercier, 23, links up after three promising seasons in USports.
