Appeal after OAP, 80, assaulted

An 80-year-old man was headbutted to the ground by a woman in her 60s, police revealed last night.

Cops are appealing for witnesses after the OAP was decked in Church Street, Kilbarchan, on Sunday.

It is understood the pair became embroiled in a verbal altercatio­n before the woman hit the elderly man in the forehead, sending him sprawling to the floor.

He suffered bruising as a result of the bizarre attack, which happened around 7pm.

He went to a police station nearby to report what had happened.

Officers probing the incident have appealed for anyone who saw the assault to come forward.

Inspector Allan O’Hare, from Renfrew, Johnstone and the villages community policing team said:“An 80-year-old man was assaulted in Church Street, Kilbarchan around 7pm on Sunday.

“The suspect is described as a woman in her 60s.

“We are very keen to trace her and speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.”

He added:“The elderly victim did not require hospital treatment as a result of the assault but has been left badly shaken by it.

“If you have any informatio­n at all please get in touch.”

Meanwhile, two teenagers have been arrested and charged with a number of alleged driving offences.

Police were called to Barholm Crescent, Erskine, around 2.50am on Sunday after members of the public reported suspicious activity in the street.

Two teens aged, 18 and 17, were arrested at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:“We can confirm that two males, aged 18 and 17, have been charged with a number of driving offences after officers attended Barholm Crescent, Erskine, on Sunday. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
