Vets save dog after he eats cannabis

-

Emergency vets saved a dog that was found lying in the street after eating cannabis.

Shar Pei crossbreed Buddy was found disorientated and struggling to breathe in Linwood by a concerned member of the public after eating the Class-B drug.

The concerned passerby took the dog home and called

the Scottish SPCA, who arrived to find the poorly dog lying “flat out” on the couch.

SSPCA inspectors quickly rushed the dog to an emergency vet for treatment, where it was discovered he had ingested cannabis.

Inspector Isla Bell collected Buddy from his rescuer’s sofa.

She said: “When I arrived to collect the dog he was lying flat out on the sofa of the person who had found him.

“He was clearly disorientated and he was having real difficulty breathing.

“I immediately took the dog to an emergency vet, where tests revealed he had ingested cannabis.

“Thankfully, the vet was able to treat him and he is now being well looked after at one of our centres.”

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information on Buddy following the incident on August 17.

The dog’s microchip helped reveal his name but other details appear to be outdated.

The animal welfare charity believes he may have links to the Woodvale area of Paisley and is urging anyone who recognises Buddy to get in touch.

Inspector Bell added: “This poor boy could have had a far unhappier outcome if the caller had not taken him in and contacted us.

“We are keen to speak to this dog’s owner to establish how he ended up in such a state.

“Initial enquiries have led to possible connections in the Woodvale area of Paisley.”

Readers with information on this dog or his owner can call the Scottish SPCA’s animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
