Orla’s charity chop helps a good cause

- CARLA TALBOT

A thoughtful Paisley schoolgirl has chopped off her locks to help support children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Orla McGrotty wanted to donate her long hair to the charity Little Princess Trust, an organisation which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair as a result of chemotherapy.

The generous St Charles’ Primary pupil told her mum Roisin she wanted to cut off her waist- length hair during lockdown.

After having a chat and doing some research, Orla was ready to brave the chop for a good cause.

And Orla decided she wanted to go that extra mile before facing the scissors at Paisley salon Class AA Hair, and decided to raise as much cash as possible to help the charity.

The nine-year-old has so far managed to raise an impressive £1,575 which will help pay for the costs of making the special wigs for children all over the UK.

Proud mum Roisin said the youngster was completely blown away by how much money they managed to raise.

Roisin, 28, said: “Her mind is completely blown by how much money people have donated.

“She just can’t believe it as we only set it up in the hope of raising £200 as to Orla even that seemed like a lot of money.

“People have been so generous and Orla is absolutely over the moon.”

After having an impressive 14 inches cut off her hair, Roisin says Orla is delighted with her new hairstyle.

The money raised from the fundraiser will help to pay for three wigs for children who have lost theirs while undergoing cancer treatment.

Roisin added: “We were able to see on the website what the money we have raised will help do and that was great for Orla.

“She absolutely loves her new hairstyle. She has always had long hair so I wasn’t really sure about her going through with it.

“But after a few months of her being sure it was what she wanted we thought we would just do it.

“I’m so pleased for her. She loves her hair and can’t stop swishing it about.”
