Ethan Erhahon revealed he’s going to take up his gaffer’s advice and start taking more shots after his wonderstrike almost burst the Aberdeen net.

The teenage midfielder slammed home a beautiful 25-yard strike to bag his first ever league goal for the Buddies.

Unfortunately for the 19-year-old the maiden domestic strike didn’t earn the Buddies a point at Pittodrie after Lewis Ferguson’s dramatic late winner.

Erhahon is still confident things will turn in his side’s favour if they keep putting in the type of performance they produced against the Dons on Friday night.

“It was the weight of pass that made me think I may as well strike it!” Erhahon told Express Sport.

“To be fair it was good to get the goal but I’m disappointed about the result.

“The gaffer was as surprised as me. In training he’s always getting on at me to shoot more but I never really do it. It was good to finally get a first league goal.

“It’s bittersweet. I thought the boys stuck together. I believe their goal took a few deflections on the way in so I thought we were unlucky, especially last minute when we were all behind the ball.

“Things just aren’t going our way at the moment.

“Personally I think we were the better team and it was a positive performance.

“The boys worked hard for 90 minutes and hopefully a deflection will come our way. If we keep putting performances in like that we’ll be getting three points sooner rather than later. We should climb up the table with performances like that.”

The Saints face two Betfred Cup clashes this week, against Partick Thistle and Queen of the South, as they look to finally end their run of six consecutive defeats.

They’ll have to make do without captain Kyle Magennis, who was due to finally return to action for the Buddies on Wednesday before making a late move to Jack Ross’ Hibs before the transfer window shuts tonight.

Erhahon admits he’ll miss Magennis, who has helped him develop on and off the pitch at St Mirren Park.

He said: “Kyle’s a great player. Me and Kyle get on well. We always have a bit of banter in the training room, he’s always getting on at me and I’m always getting on at him.

“I will miss him if he does go and it will be a big miss for us.

“We are short on numbers but the injuries aren’t going our way just now either.

“Hopefully everything flips in our favour with them coming back too.

“There’s not been any big defeats on the run we’re on, they’ve all been narrow ones.

“Things aren’t going our way but things can flip really quickly.”
