Home has made progress
A Paisley care home has finally got its act together after being hit with an improvement notice last month, a report shows writes Steph Brawn, Local Democracy Reporter.
A letter of serious concern was issued to Jenny’s Well in early November after the Care Inspectorate found failings in residents’diets and hydration, and the home’s overall management and governance.
The watchdog visited the Sight Scotland home again just a few days after highlighting its fears and, when inspectors found little had changed, bosses were given just days to turn the situation around.
When assessors returned for a third time on November 23, they claimed there were still ongoing concerns around infection prevention and control practices, support for people’s nutrition and management and quality assurance.
But during the fourth check-up in just over a month, the Hawkhead Road home was finally deemed to have overhauled its operation sufficiently.
The latest report stated:“On December 15, we carried out a further inspection with Healthcare Improvement Scotland to follow up on the outstanding requirements from the improvement notice and an additional requirement that was made following our inspection of November 3.
“There were improvements in all areas required.
“Staff were more confident in their practice.
“Infection prevention and control practice was safer, with staff following current guidance to keep residents safe.
“Nutrition and hydration needs were monitored, and people were supported well. The management team had developed quality auditing systems and processes.”
The update was included in the latest round-up of the Care Inspectorate’s check-ups, which the organisation is required to lay before the Scottish Parliament every fortnight.
The Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership has been informed of the findings.
