A goalkeepin­g howler from former St Mirren keeper Danny Rogers handed the Buddies an unlikely point at a freezing Rugby Park.

There was a question mark on whether Saturday’s clash would go ahead, with the artificial pitch passed as playable after a midday inspection.

And it was the hosts who warmed up the quickest on a sub-zero afternoon, with Danny Whitehall’s clinical header giving Killie a deserved 1-0 half-time lead.

St Mirren had shown no signs of attacking intent in the first half and looked set to return north to Paisley empty- handed after a similarly ineffectiv­e second period.

That was before Kyle McAllister’s late hopeful cross was flicked on upwards towards the back post, with Rogers leaping to collect the ball and taking a costly step backwards into his own goal.

That gifted St Mirren a welcome point that keeps them above Kilmarnock in the Premiershi­p table, with the Saints now sitting in seventh, four points behind Dundee United in the top half.

Manager Jim Goodwin kept faith with the exact same starting XI that lost out to Rangers in midweek, with Jon Obika leading the line and Ilkay Durmus and Junior Morias dropping out from the bench altogether,
