Improvement works to railway lines and stations are on track
News that work to improve railway stations in Johnstone is set to begin later this year has been welcomed by the town’s MSP.
Tom Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, spoke with Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, on rail services for his constituents during Holyrood’s portfolio question time on Thursday.
The SNP MSP raised the issue of decarbonisation and the project to electrify the rail line from Glasgow to
Barrhead.
Mr Arthur was also able to gain confirmation that accessibility works will be commencing at Johnstone’s stations later this year.
Speaking after the exchange, he said:“This is welcome news for rail users as the Scottish Government continues in its ambition to not only improve rail services, but to ensure a green and strong future.
“I have campaigned since my election in 2016 for improvements to the Barrhead line and confirmation of this investment will be welcomed by those who use the service.
“Not only will these improvements allow the trains to be more environmentally friendly, they will help increase capacity and improve journey times.
“I’m also delighted that passengers in Johnstone will have the benefit of accessibility improvements.
“As a champion for improving station accessibility throughout my constituency, this great news.
“These changes will deliver a better service for passengers across Renfrewshire South constituency and I know will be warmly welcomed by all.”
