A hero ferry skipper who rescued a woman from a sinking car has been given a police bravery award.
Quick-thinking Don MacPhee was piloting the Renfrew Ferry when a car plunged into the River Clyde, trapping a woman inside in May last year.
Don, who is a trained diver with more than 40 years’ experience, jumped into the water and managed to free the 52-year-old woman and drag her out before it sank kb below. l
He has now been handed a Chief Constable’s Bravery and Meritorious Conduct Award at Police Scotland’s annual bravery and excellence awards.
