‘It opens up opportunities we wouldn’t otherwise have’
To mark World Thinking Day, members of Renfrewshire Rainbow, Brownie, Guides and Rangers units have been sharing what being part of the organisation means to them.
Elaine McDonald, of 32nd A Brownies, said:“Guiding to me is a lifelong connection with an organisation that offers opportunities you may otherwise not get.
“It has given me the chance to connect with so many people, old and young, with a common interest.
“Guiding has challenged me in all sorts of ways.
“I love to see young girls come through and confidence bloom, friendships grow and them going out into the world having shared never-tobe-forgotten experiences.”
Lorna Ferguson, leader of 14th Paisley Guides and 32nd A Paisley
Brownies, added:“To me, Guiding means making a difference in young people’s lives and giving them opportunities they may not otherwise have. Also knowing you are part of a worldwide sisterhood is very special indeed.”
Lorraine Clements, of 8th Paisley Brownies and Guides, said:“For us, guiding means having new and exciting opportunities, making new friends who have similar interests.
“It also means learning new skills, trying things we wouldn’t otherwise try, being able to help the community and earning badges. At the moment, it also means virtual meeting and virtual sleepovers.”
Beth, 14,who is a Guide in 9th Paisley Guides, said:“I like Guides as it’s a place I can be me and be accepted for who I am.
“I have done loads of fun stuff with
Guides. I love camping and have been to camps in Holland and Denmark. I like taking part in adventurous activities I otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to try.”
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are still welcoming new girls and leaders to join the fun. For more information, go to www.girlguiding.org.uk/ information-for-parents/ register-your-daughter/
