Pro-Life gym boss gutted over pace of lockdown exit

- STEPHEN HOUSTON

The supremo of Paisley’s top sporting gym has blasted the timetable for the lifting of lockdown.

The award-winning Pro-Life Fitness Centre last saw members on Christmas Eve - with the hope of being back in business three weeks later.

Now Norman Walker, the chairman of the New Sneddon Street gym, has told of their disappointment at the continued closure.

He said hundreds of members are desperate to return to boost their physical and metal state.

Norman explained said: “It is encouraging to know an end is in sight, but we are disappointed that this is still two months away.

“We are also disappointed that outdoor classes aren’t being allowed sooner, as our members loved these when the gym was closed in the lead up to Christmas.”

He added: “People are now desperate to come back and reap the physical and mental benefits that gyms provide, so if this can happen any sooner than the end of April we would fully support this.”

This week, we revealed Paisley High Street publican Roy Henderson’s pain at another extended lockdown.

The De Beers boss anticipated outdoor service resuming like England on April 12, but will have to wait till the last week of the month.

Roy said: “I have 11 staff on furlough chomping at the bit to get back to work.

“Once again, Nicola Sturgeon is playing political chess and we are being punished.”

The Pro-Life Fitness Centre is a charity run by a board of trustees and is home to a number of Renfrewshire’s top sport stars.
