Tommy swaps the water for pavements in run challenge

Erskine veterans’charity is on its way to receiving a £1,000 funding boost thanks to a submariner’s charity challenge.

Tommy Clark has taken on the challenge of running his first marathon to raise money for Erskine, which has a care home and activity centre in Bishopton.

Royal Navy man Tommy’s training is well underway in preparation for his 26.5 mile run on March 25.

His JustGiving fundraising page is almost at its £1,000 goal, with generous donors adding £920 to the fund.

Tommy, who is from Glasgow, said:“As a serving member of the Royal Navy, Erskine is a cause close to my heart and I wanted to do my bit to fundraise for the charity because I feel that veterans truly appreciate freedom in a way that most of us take for granted.

“They willingly took steps in their lives to ensure that we could live in freedom today. We could all learn a lot from veterans and this is my way of giving back.”

Tommy’s efforts have been praised by Erskine’s community fundraiser Jim Watret - who also served with the Royal Navy for 34 years.

Jim said:“It’s great to see so many of our serving members of the Armed Forces like Tommy completing challenges to raise money for our Veterans. To think that we are still in their thoughts at this very difficult time cements the strong bond between the current service personnel and those who have gone before them.”
