Pants creep spared jail for abusing two women

Pervert begged victims to give him used underwear

- RORY CASSIDY

A“disgusting”married businessman who begged women to give him “dirty pants” has been spared jail over the sordid sexual abuse.

Creepy Gerald Murray, 66, scrunched pants up in his hands and smelled them in front of a woman who was doing work in his home.

And he asked her to steal him worn underwear from other homes she worked in, repeatedly exposed himself to her and forced her to watch pornography.

He hounded her and another woman over a five- month period, photographing and filming them against their will.

He pounced on the second woman, before raking through her laundry while demanding she give him her underwear.

And he told both women they could view the photos and videos he had taken of them any time, promising not to show them to anyone else.

Murray denied he’d done anything wrong, painting himself as a Lothario.

He claimed he was having “consensual” affairs with both women, while cheating on his partner.

But a sheriff convicted him of five charges of sexually abusing the women, in breach of the Sexual Offences ( Scotland) Act 2009.

Murray returned to the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday to learn his fate.

He was spared jail over the offences, which took place between January and May 2019 in Lochwinnoch.

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner placed him on a Community Payback Order that will see him supervised by social workers for three years.

He also has 12 months to complete 200 hours’ unpaid work and was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for three years.

Sheriff Kooner said she also considered “a programme requirement is appropriate” for Murray “to address the issues” and imposed the sentence “as a direct alternative to custody.”

The sheriff had been asked by prosecutors to impose a Non-Harassment Order, which would have seen Murray banned from approaching or contacting his victims.

But she said she did not feel it was necessary as he was a first offender and had not contacted them while on bail over the claims.

Giving evidence about her ordeal, his first victim said Murray was “absolutely sick, creepy, horrible, awkward and disgusting” and “a dirty, vile old man.”

The 5 4 - y e a r- o l d explained: “He said he liked the smell of me.”

She said he was “like a naughty wee schoolboy” and asked to meet her “in a secret forest” and go for a weekend away with him, adding: “He said he would make a good lover and would pleasure me very much.

“He had a pair of pants and said he liked to smell other women.

“They were all scrunched up in his hand and he sniffed them at the time.

“He said he enjoyed the smell of women and the smell of dirty pants.

“He said, ‘ Could you get me some dirty pants, some pairs from the laundry - and the dirtier the better’.”

Murray’s warped ways were so over the top his second victim, aged 48,felt she was “being groomed.”
