Rapid testing plan for airport

-

New rapid Covid-19 testing is being introduced at Glasgow Airport exactly one year after lockdown grounded almost all flights in Scotland.

The terminal- based facilities offer both PCR and antigen testing for passengers currently travelling for essential purposes during lockdown.

But it is hoped the increased testing will also help the aviation industry recover when Scotland reopens its borders.

Appointments for the reliable PCR tests will be available at the Paisley transport hub and provide a result within 24 hours.

The antigen test takes just 15 minutes.

The PCR test can be completed in the terminal or via a park-and-test method in the airport car parks.

Potential passengers can book both tests via the Glasgow Airport website, which also includes links to the latest government travel advice.

Mark Johnston, chief operating officer of AGS Airports Ltd, said: “Although many air services have been grounded throughout the pandemic, our airports have remained open to support critical services including Highlands and Islands routes, essential oil and gas operations and vital hub connectivity for key workers.

“The introduction of these on-site testing facilities will not only provide passengers travelling for essential purposes with a quick and convenient service, they will hopefully play a crucial role in the safe resumption of wider domestic and international travel in the weeks and months ahead.”

The testing programme is supported by TAC Healthcare Group, whose specialist labs will test people’s samples, wh while ICTS security teams will fac facilitate the testing provision at the airport.

Andy Kynoch, managing di director of ICTS UK and Ir Ireland, said: “With the ro roadmap out of lockdown pu published on February 22, we look forward to the lifting of restrictions on air travel.

“We are delighted to be in the position to facilitate a process which wi l l en enable the return of air travel.

“This process will also stimulate the healing of the aviation sector, which we have been a part of for over 33 years.

“As a group, we are incredibly proud of the agility with which we have been able to be at the forefront in assisting our clients in getting aviation back in the air.”
