SKIPPER: GOING UP FRONT IN THE FINAL MINUTES WAS A TELL-TALE SIGN

-

Saints skipper Joe Shaughnessy had a feeling results weren’t going their way - when he was ordered to go up front in the dying minutes against Hamilton.

When Accies levelled late on, the Irishman and his teammates were left relying on his former club dropping points against Ross County at McDiarmid Park.

Unfortunately for the Buddies, Glenn

Middleton had smashed the Perthshire Saints in front late on, with the two results ending St Mirren’s top six charge this season.

Shaughnessy told Express Sport:“I had an idea of the St Johnstone result when I was getting told to go up front in the 91st minute.

“A draw was never going to be enough for us either way.

“I always fancied St Johnstone to win that game. But it shouldn’t have even come down to this. We just didn’t do enough on the day or over the last six weeks.

“Whatever way we lost out, whether it was points or goal difference, it was never going to be nice to miss out on the last day.

“That’s the way football is I suppose. You can’t win them all.”
