BODY FOUND IN RAH GROUNDS
Cops launch probe after grim find
A major investigation is underway after a man’s body was found in the grounds of Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Detectives last night revealed they are treating the death as “unexplained”.
Police sealed off a large section of the RAH following the grim discovery yesterday morning.
Teams of specialist forensic officers scoured an area close to wards 38 and 39 in a search for clues to what happened to the man, who has not yet been identified.
His body was found shortly after 7am yesterday morning, sparking a Police Scotland probe.
It’s understood a post mortem is due to be carried out.
A review of nearby CCTV
is ongoing as the authorities attempt to solve the mystery of what happened to the man.
Door-to door enquiries are also expected to take place in surrounding streets in the coming days as officers attempt to piece together the man’s last known movements.
Members of the public reported seeing a large police presence at the scene throughout the day.
One man, who saw the cops descend on the hospital campus, said: “A very large area was taped off at wards 38 and 39 and the Mental Health Day Service Unit.
“There were a few officers there and then lots more round the back of the hospital.
“I also saw the police dog unit there as well and some officers seemed to be paying attention to a pavement.
“They are clearly taking it very seriously.”
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A spokesman said: “We were made aware of the body of a man being found in the grounds of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, around 7.20am on Wednesday.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
An NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokeswoman declined to comment.
