Donations pour in to help young mum make memories for her son

-

A fundraiser for a young Paisley mum with just months to live following a terminal cancer diagnosis has almost reached its target of £10,000.

Gemma Mcgowan, 29, is one of just three people in the world to be diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the nasal cavity.

The Paisley Daily Express previously told how a Gofundme had been set up by her family to help her make special memories after they were told nothing could be done to fight the disease.

Gemma had undergone months of treatments, including radiotherapy, immunotherapy and life-changing surgery in which surgeons had to remove her eye - but was told last week it had all been in vain.

Her heartbroken family said Gemma bravely fought the cancer with “unbelievable strength and bravery” all while pregnant with her first child - who was delivered at 32 weeks to enable her to safely continue the gruelling treatments.

Gemma is now making the most of the time she has left with six-monthold Arran and partner of nine years, Steven Murie.

The couple had hoped to marry in 2023, but now want to get married as soon as possible.

The fundraising page was set up by Gemma’s cousin, Mark McAloney, has now raised a total of £9,054.

The page reads:“We, as her family and friends, want to give her the best opportunity to make the most of the next few months and to help and support her in any way we can.

“The money raised will be used to give Gemma the most memorable few months possible and hope to support her son and family going forward.

“Gemma has been an absolute inspiration in how she has and continues to handle this, so if anyone is in a position to help at this heartbreaking time in any way, it will make a huge difference and on behalf of Gemma and family I’d like to thank you all.”
