Bishopton Rugby Club back on the field as training returns

-

Bishopton Rugby have put in their first hard yards following a welcome return to non-contact training.

After months away from Holmpark, the club’s men’s, women’s and kids’sections have all been getting back in the swing of action after months off the pitch.

Despite so long away from the oval ball, numbers have actually increased as players are delighted to get back into some sort of sporting action post-lockdown.

And men’s head coach Franklin Clark believes the club will be able to build up a strong second team for the first time.

He said:“I wrote a list of all the guys who played throughout the 2019-20 season and added all the new faces that we have seen at training and came up with a list of 44 names.

“If we then include the slightly more mature players, I believe we could have a list of 50 potentially active players.

“This is a massive opportunity for our club to field a competitive 1st 15 and a 2nd social team, which will give the chance for guys who want to play and push for inclusion in the 1st 15 and for guys who want to help them by using their experience to encourage and improve skill levels while playing a real match.

“Fielding two teams would be a gigantic leap forward for Bish and would allow many more guys to experience playing a worthwhile game on a Saturday, instead of standing watching.

“Let’s encourage everyone to take part so that we can grow our playing numbers and get more guys out and playing on match days.”

● Gents’training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Holmpark, starting at 7pm from next week after the clocks change on Sunday. Anyone looking to give it a try can contact the club via social media or at coaching@bishoptonrugby.com
