Get help, Valium yob told after screaming abuse at RAH medics

- RON MOORE

A woman who kicked off in hospital after swallowing street Valium has been ordered to get help.

Janet Collins, 45, was told to attend drugs and alcohol treatment sessions after she abused medics and refused to wear a face mask at the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s A&E department.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Collins had taken unwell at a house in Renfrew after taking etizolam tablets, better known as street Valium, on February 21.

Collins, of Renfrew, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in that she acted in an aggressive manner towards staff at the RAH and police.

She shouted, swore, uttered offensive remarks and threats of violence, and refused to wear her face mask while being examined by medics.

Procurator fiscal depute Andrew

Brown told the court : “Nurses were attempting to take her blood pressure when she became uncooperative and refused to keep her face mask on.

“She shouted ‘I don’t f****** care’ at both nurses and police officers.

“She shouted ‘F*** off, you f****** idiots’.

“The accused continued to shout and swear.

“She kicked a sick bowl off a bed and repeatedly pulled her mask off her face.

“A doctor attended to examine the accused, but she continued to shout and swear and refused to cooperate with hospital staff.”

Defence agent Charlie McCusker said background reports showed his client would benefit from expert help in tackling her addiction issues.

She had been getting help from Renfrewshire Drugs Services prior to the rammy at the Paisley hospital.

The court heard Collins, whose brother David was sentenced to 26 years behind bars in 2019 for the murder of Paisley man Kevin Bishop, had struggled to cope in the wake of his High Court conviction.

After studying reports, Sheriff James Spy handed her one year’s supervision by the local authority, meaning she will attend drugs and alcohol addiction sessions.

He said the court will be keeping an eye on her and she will be ordered appear for a review of her conduct in three months.
