AT FOOTBALL INITIATIVE
Dozens of youngsters jumped, hopped and ran their way through the Easter holidays when the Street Stuff bus returned to neighbourhoods across Renfrewshire.
The mobile youth club hosted a jam-packed programme, providing a sports camp Monday to Saturday throughout the two-week break.
Catering to those aged eight to 16, the camps allowed youngsters to try out a host of different sports while socialising with friends in a covid-safe environment.
And the Street Stuff’s football sessions proved as popular as ever.
The Easter camp marked the return of Street Stuff to Renfrewshire communities after covid guidelines forced the bus to park-up in December.
It offered sports and a free meal in the afternoons, while its evening sessions also resumed on April 5.
And although youngsters are still not permitted onboard the Street Stuff to play computer games and board games, the staff continue to put on a host of activities outdoors.
Street Stuff is a diversionary project run in partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Engage Renfrewshire and St Mirren Football Club.
The programme began in 2009 in Renfrewshire contributing to a reduction in youth disorder and antisocial behaviour by 75 per cent over the first five years with a sustained reduction of 65 per cent.
