Four men have been locked up over claims they turned a Renfrewshire house into a cannabis farm.

Cuong Nguyen, 48, Anh Nguyen, 23, Dinh Vinh Quang, 45, and a 17-yearold, who can’t be named for legal reasons, are said to have produced the Class-B drug at a property in Lochwinnoch.

The men, all Vietnam nationals, were arrested following a raid on the property in question, in the village’s Crookhill Gardens, on Friday evening.

They were held in police custody for three nights following the raid, which is said to have uncovered drugs worth around £ 23,000, pending their cases calling in court.

All four men were dealt with during private hearings at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.

Defence solicitor Terry Gallanagh appeared on behalf of all four men, who made no plea to the two charges against them.

They are all charged with producing cannabis, in breach of Section 4( 2) (a) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

And they are also all charged with bypassing an electricity meter at the property to “prevent a meter used for measuring the quantity of electricity supplied to said premises by an electricity supplier from duly registering the quantity of electricity supplied” in breach of Section 31 and Paragraph 11(1) of Schedule 7 of the Electricity Act 1989.

No application for bail was made and all four men were remanded in custody by Sheriff Colin Pettigrew, after the cases against them were continued for prosecutors to investigate further.

No future court dates have been set, but all four men are expected to make a second court appearance in connection with the case next week.
