Warning for dog owners
Dog owners are being told to bag it and bin it or face a hefty fine.
The warning was issued by East Renfrewshire Council which says it is seeing an increase in dog fouling in both towns.
The local authority said its community safety team - which can doll out fines of up to £80 on the spot - are continuing to patrol the area and has taken a list of streets locals say are blighted by the issue.
A spokesman for the council said:“It is completely unacceptable to not clean up after your dog.
“If you don’t pass a bin on your walk, you should take it home and dispose it in your own bin. If you are caught dog fouling, you will be fined up to £80. Don’t risk it, just bag it and bin it.”
He added:“Our community safety team continue to carry out patrols across East Renfrewshire and they will also be displaying banners and signs to remind everyone of the rules.”
East Renfrewshire Council was inundated with complaints about dog fouling on particular streets after it posted the warning on its social media channels.
People living in Belmont Drive in Barrhead described the problem as “shocking”on the residential street, while people also raised concerns about the town’s Cowan Park.
Further issues were also reported on Neilston’s Duncarnock Crescent, with one local describing the actions of local dog walkers as“disgusting”.
