Polling stations safe, says organiser

-

Renfrewshire Council has moved to reassure residents that polling stations will be safe places when they go to cast their votes on May 6.

The local authority, which will be managing the stations for the Holyrood election, has said safety has been at the forefront of the planning process, so people should feel confident visiting their local station next month.

A one-way system will be in place at each venue, twometre social distancing will be maintained at all times and perspex screens will be installed to keep staff and voters safe.

Hand sanitiser will also be available and face masks will be required for everyone unless they are exempt.

People are also asked to bring and use their own pen, while disposable ones will be offered to those who need them.

There will also be a designated cleaner for each polling station and supervisors will be in place to ensure that the safety measures are always followed.
