Finally, after months of covid updates, I’m delighted give you news of a music event happening tomorrow.

The Bungalow is inviting you to enjoy a night of cocktail making and brilliant music to close out this year’s online Paisley Food and Drink Festival from 8pm.

The programme has been put together by Brick Lane Media.

I’ve had a preview and it looks great. The lineup features Tom McGuire and The Brassholes, The Vegan Leather, Skaledonia, John Rush and the Well Happy Band.

Tom McGuire and The Brassholes are an eclectic, modern-soul-funk, eight- piece band from Glasgow, headed by keen skater, lumberjackattired soul bearer, Tom McGuire.

The funky collective of “killer animals from hell” consists of a colourful, hilarious bunch of wonderfully talented, animated young men.

The band delivers great variety and includes everything from a humble Polish saxophonist, a reserved introvert piano pounder, someone who claims to be the self-confessed “sex appeal of the band” and two English horn-blowing northerners, amongst others.

The band earned their stripes on Sauchiehall and Buchanan Street as buskers during Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games, and have slowly been working their way up the staircase of success, becoming one of

Scotland’s most vibrant live acts.

Their debut self-titled album was released in January 2019 and this is a band that’s definitely one to watch.

Next is nine-piece East Kilbride based Skaledonia playing classic Ska from The Specials, Bad Manners, The Beat, Madness, Selecter and The Bodysnatchers, with a few traditional Ska classics and Skaledonia originals thrown in for good measure.

The band always puts on an energetic and fun-filled show which will have you Skanking right from the start.

Following Skaledonia is one of my favourite bands to come out of Paisley - The Vegan Leather, who have been described as an art-pop outfit with heavy undertones.

Then it’s a welcome back for one of Paisley’s well known singer songwriters, John Rush.

He has played in some of Glasgow’s greatest venues, with regular appearances at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, the O2 Academy, Barrowlands Ballroom and, most recently, Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

In 2017 and 2018, Josh became a regular at Sofar Sounds and Rockwood Music Hall during three whistle-stop tours of New York city.

His new album, Beneath the Apple Tree, is a collection of acoustic stories with narratives like falling in love, or sailing from cloud to cloud all the way to the moon.

And, lastly, it is The Well Happy band, which was formed when two people with their electro acoustic ukuleles chanced their arm and got a last-minute gig at The Eden Festival.

The Well Happy Band has grown somewhat and played many feelgood gigs since then, including The Wickerman Festival, Solfest, The Kelburn Garden Party, Mugstock and the 100 Bands on the Borders Festival. Now a 13-strong piece band of merry folk, this band will be sure to put a big smile on your face.
