Jay receives all the plaudits after debut
Saints Academy kid Jay Henderson has been tipped for a bright future after shining on his full debut against Ross County.
The 19-year-old midfielder bagged his first start for the Buddies on Wednesday night, playing at full-back to help ease the Paisley club’s injury woes during their 3-1 win in the Dingwall.
The teenager was one of his side’s best performers, putting in a number of excellent crosses and impressing with some mazy runs at the Staggies’ defence.
St Mirren legend Tony Fitzpatrick was quick to praise the youngster on social media.
He posted after full-time: “Take a bow young Jay Henderson. A real class act with a big future ahead.”
Saints goalkeeping coach Jamie Langfield was also full of praise for the Academy product, who had previously only enjoyed two substitute appearances against Hamilton in the Scottish Cup and Motherwell on Premiership duty. Langfield posted: “Congratulations Jay Henderson on your first start. Absolutely superb young man.”
Henderson returned to the Buddies in January having enjoyed a loan spell at Clyde during the first half of the season, under the tutelage of former Saints manager Danny Lennon.
