St Mirren gaffer leads his squad out in their finest for virtual Kiltwalk
St Mirren’s first team went marching in to promote this weekend’s virtual Kiltwalk - and they want you to be in that number.
Gaffer Jim Goodwin and chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick along with the players got all kilted up at the SMISA Arena to encourage Buddies to sign up to the charity event.
Looking resplendent in the sun, the squad, accompanied by board members and back room staff, were keen to show off their legs for a great cause.
Boss Goodwin has already committed to walking 1,877 steps around the stadium as his contribution to the St Mirren Charitable Foundation’s Saints Come Marching in Kiltwalk team.
The foundation’s chief executive Gayle Brannigan and community development officer Michael Campbell scaled Ben Nevis yesterday in their own Kiltwalk challenge.
Goodwin is calling on all Buddies to consider throwing on some tartan and signing up to take part in their own virtual challenge to raise funds.
He told the Paisley Daily Express: “We are delighted to be involved this weekend.
“Gayle Brannigan CEO of our charitable foundation has done a lot of hard work behind the scenes to put the team together.
“We are trying to raise some much needed funds for our local community, you don’t have to be a St Mirren fan to get involved or to donate, everyone is welcome and every penny counts.”
All money raised will be put towards running summer camps for atrisk children as well as supporting a number of other programmes offered by the foundation.
The club’s chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick was keen to take part in the socially-distanced photo shoot, and looked top notch in his blue tartan.
“I was absolutely delighted to be a part of the Kiltwalk with everyone at the club from the directors, to the players, the manager and the staff and everyone associated with St Mirren FC,” he said.
“It’s great to be able to give back and a special thank you to Houston Kiltmakers who very kindly supplied us with their fantastic kilts for the occasion, free of charge.”
First teamers Ky l e McAllister and Jak Alnwick definitely looked the part, while others looked a little less comfortable in Scotland’s national dress.
Skipper Joe Shaughnessy explained: “It was great, a lot of the lads have never worn a kilt before, so it was really fun.
“It was good to get out, and good to support the SMFC Charitable Foundation.
“We all really enjoyed it and it’s great to be able to be involved with such a worthy cause.”
