Jim: Let’s make Hampden our regular haunt
by reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. They just need to battle past Kilmarnock at Rugby Park this evening, with Goodwin’s side last reaching that stage in 2009.
He said:“We want to be a club that gets to semi-finals as a minimum year on year.
“It’s very, very difficult because there’s a number of other clubs trying to do the same, but we managed to get to the quarter-final stage last year. We’ve got the semi-finals of the League Cup this year.
“We’d love to get to the semi-finals of the Scottish this year and we’re making good progress in the league as well, sitting seventh at the moment.
“We’ve raised the bar a lot this season and set our targets very high.
“Yes, we didn’t make the top six, but I’d rather be shot down for missing out on that than celebrating staying in the league. We’re making great progress on and off the field and going far in these competitions is very important for us.”
Goodwin admits that, while missing out on some of the bigger clubs in the Premiership, St Mirren’s record at Rugby Park leaves a lot to be desired.
